POWER FASHION: innovation, sustainability and design for the wearable devices of the future
Framis Italia is a partner in POWER FASHION, an industrial research and experimental development project co-funded by the Lombardy Region as part of the 2021–2027 ERDF Regional Programme and the Next Fashion call for proposals, with the aim of developing new, efficient and sustainable wearables.
The project
POWER FASHION was launched to create a new generation of smart textiles capable of combining advanced functionality, comfort, aesthetic quality and sustainability. The project involves the development of smart fabrics designed to ensure durability and efficiency of use, incorporating features linked to the monitoring of biometric and environmental parameters, sensor technology and tracking via tags. A distinctive feature of the project is the integration of concealed flexible photovoltaic systems, designed to make wearables more self-sufficient and suitable for continuous use without compromising their design or fit. In this context, innovation concerns not only the technological component, but also the way in which it is harmonised with the textile product and the end-user experience.
Framis Italia’s perspective
For Framis Italia, taking part in POWER FASHION means making a tangible contribution to the evolution of the fashion-tech sector through expertise that brings together performance, aesthetics and industrial design. The project represents an opportunity to apply the company’s culture of innovation to solutions that require functional integration, attention to detail and coherence between technology and design. Within this vision, Framis views wearables as products that must not only be technologically advanced, but also comfortable, durable and suitable for real-world, everyday use. The aim is to contribute to the development of solutions in which smart components are integrated ever more seamlessly into the garment, enhancing both the functionality and the perceived quality of the finished product.
A supply chain partnership
POWER FASHION is based on a collaboration between complementary organisations: S&H S.r.l., Framis Italia S.p.A., Linificio e Canapificio Nazionale S.r.l. Società Benefit and Istituto Carlo Secoli S.r.l. The project therefore brings together cross-disciplinary expertise ranging from hardware and software development to textiles, pattern-making and prototyping. This supply chain approach is central because it enables an integrated response to the challenges of wearable innovation: electronic functionality, material sustainability, comfort, fit and aesthetic quality. Within this ecosystem, Framis contributes through an approach to applied innovation, focused on transforming research into concrete solutions for the market.
Sustainability and a vision for the future
According to the project brief, POWER FASHION aims to develop wearables designed in line with principles of efficiency and sustainability, including through the use of bio-based and bio-inspired materials and a design approach that takes the entire product life cycle into account. This approach reflects an increasingly strategic direction for the fashion and textile sector, which is called upon to rethink its products in a responsible manner without compromising on performance or appeal. For Framis, initiatives such as POWER FASHION confirm the value of collaborative research as a driving force for shaping the sector’s future. The convergence of technology, sustainability and design opens up new opportunities to conceive smart garments and accessories capable of responding in a more advanced way to the needs of people and the market.
